[...] Our first addition to the house, in fact week one after moving in, was a beautiful Ilve oven that was a necessity if you saw the state of the previous oven… At the same time we also purchased one of the most coverted whitegood items - a dishwasher!! Now i’m not going to go into the long tales of ‘who’s turn is it to do the dishes…oh well, I cooked and so Im not doing the dishes… it’s your turn… no its your turn…! but I will say that this issue is one of the bones of contention in our house. I must admit that having a dishwasher…(and no I’m not talking about the 1950’s style that wears an apron and waits with baited breathe and martini in hand, the husbands home coming)…is something that I think all people aspire to owning, I’m talking the fully electronic, you stack and walk away type. Nothing is worse than at the end of the day, having to come home, cook dinner, sit down, only to then have to do the dishes, just think of how many hours this consumes of our leisure time, the time we’d rather be sitting down glaring at the tv, unwinding after a hard day at the office… or better still be out tinkering out in the shed.
[...] I’d planned to roast my two beeyootiful birdies on the rotisserie in My Beautiful Ilve, but with the all those veggies in there as well, I’d run out of room.
[...] With so many bellies to feed, I could feel the culinary juices starting to flow. I’d planned to do the roast on the rotisserie in my beautiful Ilve, but it was too heavy and the spit wouldn’t turn, so instead I studded it with rosemary, garlic and preserved lemon, basted it in olive oil and lemon juice, and roasted it straight on the oven rack. Carve it up, present it on a platter, and sprinkle with preserved lemon and rosemary. Deelish! Dessert needed to be tended to as well. I’d bought four punnets of strawberries on Friday, intending to make some strawberry jam at some point over the weekend. The strawberry jam never materialised, so I thought I’d test my patisserie skills and make a strawberry tart and a strawberry pavlova - the humble pav is my all-time favourite dessert, and strawbs are my all-time favourite fruit.
[...] There were a couple of non-lemony items too. Pork spare ribs marinated in home made marmalade and ginger. Steaks marinated in Guiness (the perfect tenderiser) and assorted spices. And sausages of course. We enjoyed a barbecue without the actual barbecue (O and I haven’t got one yet) so instead I cooked all the meat on the griddle plate of my beloved Ilve and even succeeded in setting off the smoke alarm!
